Sites to See in Bangkok
Bangkok, the capital of the world’s ever independent
country Thailand has so many things to see and
experience that can’t be listed in short. However, if
you are on a tight schedule, you must make the picks to
make the best out of your sightseeing.
Temples
Among all the attractions, the top pick
would be the
Grand Palace (Ko Rattanakosin District).
This more than 200-year old complex of buildings
used to be the official residence of the king of
Thailand till the middle of

the last century. The one square-mile
fascinating palace is on the east bank of the
Chao Phraya River. The other sides of the palace are
protected by defensive walls which are also surrounded
by a defensive canal making the whole compound look like
an island.
You can also explore several other temples of
the city like the
Wat Mahathat (offers meditation classes),
Wat Pho (displays a 46-meter long reclining gold
plated Buddha with soles inlaid with mother of pearl),
Wat Arun (temple of the dawn) and the
Wat Trai Mit (possess an impressive 5 and a half ton
solid gold Buddha).
Reptile Farms
Another
not-to-be-missed attraction is the Samut Prakarn
Crocodile Farm and the
Dusit Zoo in the Taiban Sub-District. There are more
than 60,000 crocodiles in this world’s largest crocodile
farm. If you enjoy reptiles, you shouldn't miss the
Snake Farm at the Queen Saovabha Memorial
Institute situated in the Lumpini sub-district. In
this interesting place you can learn more about this
feared reptile and see live displays of snakes being fed
or the venom being collected. At the end of the show,
don’t forget to take a snap with the big snake round
your neck, no worries; this shot is a tourists’
favorite.
Museums & Attractions
Another close to the city attraction is the
Ancient City (Muang Boran). This is actually a
heritage park of 320 acres of land. The compound is
outlined roughly in the shape of Thailand. You can call
it the Mini Thailand, as all the important monuments,
both existing and demolished; are on display in
miniature here. There are over 100 structures, most of
them constructed in details and to the scale. There are
also traditional Thai houses and structures reviving the
tradition. The park is just at the outskirts of Bangkok,
on Sukumvit Road heading to the Pattaya beach resort.
Nightlife
Bangkok is of
course a highly sought destination also due to its
nightlife. The
Patpong Night Market is an interesting place
broadcasting many Go-Go bars as well as a Night Market.
One can go shopping or enjoy a drink while watching the
dancers.
