Being a tourist, you are not required to pay the
additional Value Added Tax (VAT) on items which
cost over 5,000 Baht and which you intend to take out of
Thailand. All you need to do is announce at each
purchase which is over 5,000 Baht that you would like to
profit from the VAT. You are then required to show your
Passport and the PP-10 Form is handed to
you which you should keep together with your original
receipt. At your departure, present your paperwork to
the 'Customs Inspection for VAT Refund Office'
and if the value is less than 30,000 Baht your refund
can be handed out either in cash, bank transfer or
credited to your credit card. Should your refund exceed
30,000 Baht you must drop your paperwork into the nearby
collection box and your refund will be transferred to
you via bank or credit card.

How to claim your Refund
This scheme will only work in stores
which have the "VAT Refunds for Tourist" sign displayed. The goods must
have the value of at least 5,000 Baht (including VAT) or single purchases of at
least 2,000 Baht per day. The goods must be presented at the Airport within 60
days from the date of purchase.
When purchasing your goods, present your passport and
ask the sales assistant to complete the VAT Refund Application for Tourists form
(also known as PP-10). The original receipt must be attached to the form as
well.
At an International Airport while departing, present all
the paper work to the Customs Office for inspection before you check in. In the
case of luxuries goods (gold watches, jewellery etc.), a further inspection by
the Revenue Officer at the departure lounge is necessary.

How will your refund be paid out
Refunds which add up to less than
30,000 Baht will be paid out either in cash (Thai Baht), Bank Transfer or
credited to your credit card.

Refunds paid out as cash will have the
fee of 100 Baht. Bank or Credit Card transfers will also have the fee of 100
Baht but additional Bank fees will apply.
