Shopping and Entertainment
Bangkok’s shopping malls aren’t
just meant for shopping, but it is also a great place to
have fun. Why not spend a while watching one of
the newest blockbusters in air-conditioned cinemas; have
a game of bowling modern bowling alleys while a DJ is
spinning the tunes; sing until you lose your voice in
one of many karaoke booths; or dine in a high-class
restaurant? Whatever your taste is, Bangkok's shopping
malls will surly satisfy them, whether it be for
shopping or entertainment purposes.

 Siam
Paragon - The Pride of Bangkok |
|
|
|
“Siam Paragon – The pride of Bangkok”
differentiates itself from other Bangkok shopping malls
by its sheer size and luxuriousness. Almost anything can
be found here – from shopping of designer wear, bowling
and karaoke to the most luxurious sports cars –
definitely worth visiting to see Bangkok’s rich and
famous side.

 MBK
Shopping Centre |
|
|
|
MBK (Mah Boon Krong Center) is by far the
craziest, most hectic mall in central Bangkok, but it’s
also one of the best. Of course that depends on what
you’re looking for. In terms of actual shops it’s
extremely diverse; almost anything can be found here.
You can also have a good time with your friends bowling,
watching movies at the cinema, or singing at the
karaoke, all within the same complex, and at a decent
price.

 Siam
Center Bangkok |
|
|
|
Siam Center Bangkok is one of the oldest malls of
the capital, but still attracts young and hype
clienteles. Famous for its attractive skate and surf
shops with a great food court on the 4th floor called
“Food for Fun”, Siam Center Bangkok still keeps
competing with its neighboring mega-malls. It’s open
daily from 9am – 9pm.

 Central
World Bangkok |
|
|
|
Central World Plaza – which, oddly enough, used
to be called the “World Trade Center” before renovation
– is now Bangkok’s largest shopping complex (after
renovation, Siam Paragon having been the largest before
that). In fact it’s one of the largest shopping
complexes in all of Asia. The “Zen” and “Isetan”
department stores are found within the complex, the
Isetan being a great place to shop for quality Japanese
products.

 Siam
Discovery Center |
|
|
|
Siam Discovery Center is, like most other malls
in Bangkok, huge. It offers the same sorts of brands and
food chains as in other trendy malls, but it is
noteworthy for its amazing cinema complex, the biggest
(and arguably the most luxurious) in Bangkok; it’s
called the “Grand EGV”. It’s really worth going there if
you want to see a movie in Bangkok. However, don't
forget to bring enough change as it is one of the most
expensive cinemas in Asia.

 Amarin
Plaza Bangkok |
|
|
|
Amarin Plaza is one of the more stylish and
luxurious malls in Bangkok; it attracts a very diverse
crowd. There is an excellent food court, spa and yoga
center on the 4th floor, and one of the best Thai
handicrafts center in Bangkok on the 2nd floor, which
any tourist in search of prestigious souvenirs or gifts
should take a look at. It’s open from 9am – 9pm. Get off
at the “Chit Lom” stop of the BTS to get there.

 Gaysorn
Bangkok |
|
|
|
Gaysorn is the place to go if you intend on
buying the most sought-out international brands, and is
in that sense a bit exclusive (although of course
Bangkok has plenty of other high-class malls such as
Paragon). The inside happens to be esthetically very
pleasing (all in white), which makes the shopping
experience a lot more enjoyable, but of course that’s
subjective. Still, it definitely provides a more serene
and tranquil shopping experience than some of the other
designer or brand-oriented malls.

 Erawan
Bangkok |
|
|
|
Erawan is an overall great high-end shopping
complex with excellent international cuisine and a great
tea room. It’s very high-class, and you can find pretty
much any international brand-name here. On the top floor
you will find one of Bangkok’s best spa and beauty
centers, highly recommendable to those who’re into
aromatherapy and the like, and tourists will want to see
the Erawan Shrine (San Phra Phrom) which is
close-by.

 The
Emporium Bangkok |
|
|
|
The Emporium is another upscale mall owned by the
same group as Siam Paragon. It is a little less
luxurious than the latter, but is nonetheless a
shopper’s heaven. There is a cinema complex on the 6th
floor and of course the usual food court on the 5th.
More importantly, for those who intend to do their own
cooking, don’t miss the supermarket on the ground floor
- it’s one of Bangkok’s very best places to go shopping
for food. The Emporium is probably the best
all-around mall in Bangkok.
