Crime:
Thailand is a very friendly and welcoming country
and crime rates are low. However, you always should
exercise caution when dealing with strangers.
Theft:
Pickpocket is the most common theft in Thailand,
especially in crowded tourist areas, buses and
trains. Always have an eye on your belongings. Leave
unnecessary valued goods such as watches, passports,
etc. in your hotel safe and only carry a small
amount of money with you.
Fraud & Scams:
Beware of taxi and tuk tuk drivers – or any other
stranger – that offer rides or recommend shops such
as gem and jewelry, silk or souvenir shops. The
goods are cheap, fake and overpriced. Read more
about
gem and jewelry scam.
Drugs:
Penalties for drug offences are very sever, even for
"soft drugs". Always pack your own baggage and keep
an eye on it. Never take any packages trough Customs
for anyone.
