Located next to Lumpini Stadium,
the Suan Lum Night Bazaar is probably the first
official night bazaar in Thailand and belongs to one of
the most popular tourist hotspots. With 3,000 stall and
still counting, this Bazaar (market) is situated in the
heart of the south-eastern corner of Lumpini Park. Local
history tells us that “Suan” is Thai for park, and the
word “Lum” is the abbreviation of the actual name. The
proximity of the Lumpini Park is probably how the name
came into being. The market is open all seven days a
week from 3:00 PM to the wee hours of the morning.

Suan Lum Night Bazaar
Visitors to the Suan Lum Night Bazaar have plenty
to see and do. This night time market is an interesting
combination of local flavors and western influences.
Here you will find some 3,000 odd shops selling a host
of things such as clothes, souvenirs, artifacts,
electronic items, and much more. Shoppers also find it a
good spot to buy local jewelry, clothing, fruit,
hand-made products, painting and sculptures as well as
many other interesting gifts that make an ideal souvenir
from the land of smiles. For those who want to take a
rest from shopping have the opportunity to visit one of
Suan Lum Night Bazaar’s many pubs, beer gardens,
eateries, open food courts and live entertainment shows.
The food here is very interesting as it is dominated by
traditional Thai as well as German and Spanish eateries.
Most restaurants offer both inside and outside seating
arrangements, while most pubs and beer gardens are
accompanied by live Thai bands performing local and
international hits on stage. You might want to take a
look at the sprawling market and check out its wares
first before you settle down to an oriental cooking
experience. There are some here who also come to
experience and indulge in some Thai boxing at the famous
Lumpini Stadium.
The market is open late into the night, so you can
finish your sightseeing trip during the day and stroll
out into the market at night. Make your dress code light
and simple as it could get hot and stuffy.

Joe Louis Theatre – Puppet
Show
After enjoying your shopping trip and a delicious
dinner, you have the opportunity to see the famous local
Thai puppet show – the only one in the country - which
is held at the Joe Louis Theatre. Each puppet is
controlled by three manipulators dressed in black.
Visitors can see the entire process of the making of
traditional masks, and then enjoy the unique and
fascinating puppet show. The show starts daily from
7:30pm onwards and the entrance fee is 600 Baht per
person.
