Patpong

No visit to Bangkok is completed without a night
in the colorful and vibrant area of Patpong – the most
famous and popular nightlife spot among tourists and
ex-pats. It was founded in the late 1960s when a number
of bars opened for GIs that came to Bangkok to rest
their tired and heavy souls during the Vietnam War. By
day the Patpong area was boringly surrounded by
international companies, airline offices and other
business buildings, but by night it transformed into an
exciting and adult oriented nightlife spot. Already back
then, Patpong earned its notoriety and was renowned for
its wild and naughty scene to please their customers
with sexy and seductive shows. Today however, since the
introduction of Patpong’s night market in the early 90s
and the prohibition of nudity on stage, the area has
become milder and less adult oriented as it once used to
be. It is not uncommon to see whole families exploring
the market while go-go bars which grant a view on half
naked pole dancers are lined up along the soi, calling
in customers and even children from the streets. If you
are looking for a real adultery experience you should
check out
Nana Plaza and
Soi Cowboy.
Patpong is located in the Silom district between
the Silom and Surawong Road and can be easy accessed via
the
BTS Sky Train station Sala Daeng and the
MRT Metro
station Silom. Patpong is divided into 2 parallel
side-streets and houses around 100 neon-lit go-go bars,
underground sex shows, typical Irish and beer bars and a
night market right in the heart of the Asian metropolis.

Restaurants and Hotels

The lively and colorful area of Patpong does not
only attract people for its seductive shows, but also
for its first class hotels, fine cuisine restaurants and
many street food stands that offer tasty local food to a
cheap price. Especially the numerous international
restaurants are in the spotlight for many families,
business men and other gourmands that are on a night out
seeking a quality culinary experience. Excellent and
mouthwatering food ranging from European cuisine such as
French, Italian, British and German to Asian fine
eateries - Japanese, Chinese and of course Thai are all
located in the near surroundings of the famous Patpong
area. The most famous and popular restaurants are Caffe
di Roma, a classy Italian restaurant and Café de Paris,
a traditional French restaurant. Both are located on
Patpong Soi 2 and are just few meters apart. Of course,
there are plenty of Western fast food chains available,
too.
Patpong Night Market
Patpong’s flourishing night market opened in the
early 1990s and offers souvenirs, Thai handicrafts, all
sorts of clothing articles, quality fake designer wears,
fake designer watches, DVDs of all your favorite shows
and movies and a lot more. It definitely is worth
stopping by while staying in Bangkok. Bargaining will
become a routine as the most items are overpriced. Read
