programs, at both undergraduate and graduate
levels, which are taught in English. Most of these
Universities have the regular courses at all levels for
students apart from which some courses in Business
Administration, Communication Arts, and
Architecture happen to be very popular with foreign
students.
The courses and programs offered are reasonably priced
too. Enrolling for a bachelors
degree for example, would
cost about
100,000 Baht (~ $3,000) for
one whole year which just
includes the tuition
fees.
In order to gain acceptance in any of these
Universities, foreign applicant have
it easier here. This is mainly because most universities
are keen on increasing the number of international
students giving their programs
an international flavor. In fact the university also
helps its students in getting a student visa with the
help of which you can also work here on a part time
basis, without a work permit.
While British or American degrees might belittle a Thai
degree some of the Thai universities are nevertheless
well recognized institutions. There are plenty of
student exchange programs with Western universities too.
Uniforms
All schools in Bangkok
require their students to wear a Uniform. For University
students this consists of a white shirt and black

no sandals or slippers. On special occasions, such as
exams, the Student are asked to wear the official neck
tie of the University.
The experience of studying in a Thai university
You will find that Thai instructors prefer more
subjective grading than their Western counterparts.
Thais, do not believe in free classroom both students
and professors alike. One does not usually ask questions
in the class and reverence is a matter of not asking
questions too! Opinions are welcome though cultural
sensitivity is
needed.
You will learn about Thai living and art and culture
apart from the language on a day to day basis.
Students usually live alone in a
university or private dormitory.
A room will cost
about 6000 baht per month
plus electricity and water charges. There are
also of course cheaper options
of staying on a sharing basis with other students
or friends.
There are about 15 Governmental Universities in Bangkok
and a similar number of Private Universities. Some of
these are, Chulalongkorn University
(Bangkoks number 1),
and Kasetsart University both of which are
Governmental, while the Assumption
University and Bangkok University are
privately run.
