 Living in Bangkok

There are many people who have been to Bangkok for a visit and fell in love with the city and just settled down there. Most such people have this to say that apart from a few differences in the luxuries of the basic sense there is very little one misses of the city life in Bangkok. A cosmopolitan city in many ways though the Thai flavor is vigorously prominent, you will have no real problems if you don’t know Thai that well.

Bangkok City

An exciting and vibrating city, Bangkok has much to offer those who choose to make it their home. The delightfully oriental culture, the simplicity of the people and the easy life style are often aspects that lure the western mind to this place. Before you actually decide to spend your years in this place you need to check out a few things like livability, home arrangements, expenses and food. Learning the local language as is always the situation, helps one cover enormous grounds in a foreign land, so it might be helpful if you could make the effort to understand some basics of the Thai language.

Bangkok has excellent accommodation facilities for those with any kind of budget. Whether it is apartment blocks, which are relatively cheap and comfortable, or high end penthouse apartments, you will find it all here.

Health is a major concern for most people, on this account Bangkok has some of the best world class facilities that are available to anyone.

Opportunities

Finding work isn’t really an issue in Bangkok. Most people earn a "decent" amount by teaching English or becoming teachers in some of the Language Institutions, International Schools or Universities here. Going by the fact that there are also many International companies located right down town, finding a Job there would be an alternative to the usual teaching job.

Food and transport are easily available features in Bangkok. The street food here is very cheap but you have to be careful about them since they might pose health hazards. There are othe possibilities such as to order Western Food directly to your doorstep.  Like anywhere else of course there are expensive eating joints that you can frequent once in a while.

Owning an own car in Bangkok is a rather expensive luxury as the price of a vehicule can easily cost 300% more than what you would pay in Europe/US. Public transport however is cheap and easily available too.

There is plenty to be had in terms of entertainment in this city, so boredom is something you will not experience. As for being home sick, many ex-pats enjoy their own kind as company which will should make anyone feel home while away from home.
