Bangkok, also known as
Krung Thep
(short version) in Thai, is the 22nd
most populous city in the world with around 10
million inhabitants.
It
is approximately 1,500 km2 (600 square miles) and
is divided by the Chao Phraya River into two large
cities, Bangkok and Thon Buri. There are several bridges
that connect these two areas to each other, the
Krungthon Bridge, the Phra Pinklao Bridge, and the
Memorial Bridge are just a few. |

Religion

Theravada or Hinayana
Buddhism is the national religion of Thailand but
there is total religious freedom and all major religions
can be found in practice. There is absolute freedom of
religion - Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and other
faiths are practiced and protected by the constitution.
Buddhism is the faith of 95 percent of the population, 4
% are Muslims, 0.5 percent and Christians, and the
remainder Hindus, Sikhs and other religion.

are renowned to be a very friendly and open society,

possible to make everyday tasks and living together as
easy as possible. Thailand is
non confrontational by nature, easy going and don't

Thai Food

Thai food offers a variety of
delicious flavors, extraordinary tastes and beautiful
decorated and colored dishes. The mix of fresh herbs and
spices combined with market fresh ingredients gives Thai
food its special and unique flavor. This mixture of
perfectly balanced ingredients became Thailand’s
trademark and is famous and loved all over the world.

Currency

The Thai unit of currency is
the
Baht
(symbol ß). 1 Baht is divided into 100 Satang. Note are
in denominations of 1,000, 500, 100,
50 and 20 Baht. Coins consist
of 25 Satang, 50 Satang (rarely used),
1 Baht, 2 Baht, 5 Baht and 10
Baht. All bills and all coins
have a picture of His Majesty the King, and are
therefore supposed to be shown some respect.

Homosexuality

Homosexuality in
Thailand has become widely accepted and they are treated
with equal respect as anyone else. Each year Gay parades
are held in Bangkok, Pataya and Phuket. Thailand is also
home to the infamous Ladboys which also have become
widely accepted.
