Introduction to Sukhumvit Road
The distinction of being the longest road in Thailand
goes to the
Sukhumvit Road. One may describe this road as a hip and
cool side of an otherwise more traditional Bangkok. This
road is inhabited by many of the expat community as well
as the young and dynamic professional Thai, who like the
more sophisticated and jazzy atmosphere of the ever busy
Sukhumvit Road. It is is a straight 6 to 8 lane road
with few intersections. Due to its dead-end streets, the
area is good as a residential place too.
Location of Sukhumvit Road and its attractions
The Sukhumvit Road stretches east end to the west
end of the city from central Bangkok to the suburbs. The
juncture where Ploenchit Road ends is where the
Sukhumvit Road starts. Though you will find the "Thai
touch" in every corner of the Sukhumvit Road, there is
yet a trendy feel to the place. You will find here
plenty of foreigners mainly because of its cosmopolitan
atmosphere. The place has plenty of luxury hotels,
modern clubs, trendy restaurants, bars,
shopping malls, precisely all the trappings of
modern life that the urban swish set can’t seem to do
without.
Entertainment on Sukhumvit Road and getting there
Sukhumvit Road is host to some of the city's most daring
and adventurous night spots. In fact the area has the
red-light districts of
Nana Plaza in Soi 4 besides a host of other night
clubs, sweet cafes, atmospheric restaurants and lush day
spas that bear on the expensive to the raunchy. The
night life on the Sukhumvit Road caters to much of the
tourist population who come here in search of some
hedonistic pleasures.
The elevated
Skytrain stretches along most of the Sukhumvit Road
and it is also the most popular and easy way of
transportation. The entire length of Sukhumvit Road has
a complex network of interconnecting Sois which is in
one way good since it is connected to most places but
can be daunting to the ordinary tourist who might get
lost unless he follows both road instructions as well as
a map.
There is the Skytrain which goes above ground and a
Subway which goes underground. Both systems are
accessible on Sukhumvit road at the Asoke-Sukhumvit
intersection. You can approach the Skytrain station
called 'Asoke' station, as well as the subway station
known as the 'Sukhumvit' station. Both of these are
connected by stairs and escalators.
