Guest Houses in Bangkok
If you are among those travelers who plan to stay for a
relatively long time in Bangkok but want to avoid a
commercial hotel or the hassles of renting an apartment,
a guest house could be your best bet.
A guest house is a privately run accommodation that
accommodates guests like a commercial hotel and most of
the time have a homely ambience as they are run by a
family and the inmates are treated like extended family.
The rapid growth of the tourism in Bangkok has convinced
many owners to open their own guest house in and around
the city fringes of Bangkok.
By enlisting into a guest house you can avoid the extra

hotels, yet find
yourself in a home like environment where the food tastes more
authentic and the "staff " less commercial.
What a Guest house can offer
Guest houses are spread all over Bangkok, but special
mention needs to be made of the numerous ones in
Khao San Road. Known to be a haven for
backpackers, this road has numerous guest houses
where you are offered plenty of options in terms of rent,
accommodation and facilities.
The range for guest houses is as varied as that of
hotels. While guest houses can be found in Bangkok for
less than 100 Baht per Night, they often lack in comfort
and quality. There are also of course fancier and bigger
guest houses with plenty of facilities and good food too
ranging from 300 - 600 Baht.
A budget of around 300 Baht or more is enough to secure
you some of the best guest house rooms and accommodation
facilities.
Such facilities usually include:
• Attached bathroom with hot water.
• Well furnished rooms and a TV.
• Good homely food
• Security round the clock
• Cleaning service (not always)
There are luxurious guest houses in the price range of
400 to 600 Baht, where apart from the basic amenities
you are also provided with, air conditioners,
refrigerators, a mini bar room service,
swimming pool facilities, etc.
How to find a Guesthouse
If you plan to stay in Bangkok, for an extended period,
it would be a good idea to book a guest house in advance.
Finding a decent vacant place might be a difficult task,
especially those located in the prime locations during
the tourist seasons.
If your stay is long, you might even bargain a deal at
rates that are better than those normally applied. Most
guest houses allow sharing the room with a friend, even
though there are restrictions in some places. It is
advised to inform yourself beforehand about the
room tariff in case you have a friend staying over.
Searching for a guest house is pretty much like that of
other rental accommodations. You might visit a real
estate agency to find you one. In case you have plenty
of time, it is suggested that you troop along any of the
local markets or the expat areas, where you can ask
around about guest houses. There is of course, other
such special company or institution based guest houses,
which usually have great accommodation at cheaper rates.
If you belong to any such community or office group keep
track of the official accommodation provided here.
